AN ODE

TO THE

BETTY CARDIGAN

This little cardigan is a true petite wardrobe workhorse. It plays the role of jacket and layering piece, effortlessly transitioning from day-to-night, work-to-weekend. Seriously, was I living before this cardigan came into my life?

How do I even begin? How do I even begin? The title really sets the tone here - this is an ode to a really, really great sweater.

Let’s start with the basics: at 100% merino wool, this is a well-constructed cardigan. Thick without being bulky, structured without feeling constricting, the Betty feels very well-made and luxe - far nicer than its sub-$200 price tag suggests.

On most of the cardigans the buttons are a lovely tortoise shell, oversized which adds visual interest to the overall look. The pockets hit center on the chest, and the pointed collar stays flat and in place throughout the day.

I cannot stress enough that I am petite. Like very petite, so the struggle to find pieces that fit is real. This piece, wow - it fits! The dropped shoulder hits just where it should, and the hem ends at right about my natural waist. For reference, I’m 5’1”, and wear an XXS. Does it sun small? Yes, that’s why it fits me so well. Highly recommend if you’re petite too. I needed to give the sleeves a quick cuff, but that’s okay - I have T-Rex arms so I’m not mad about it.

So we’ve established that this is a quality sweater, one that fits a petite person quite well. The merino wool gives this sweater structure without being bulky, and the button and pocket details make it interesting and look more expensive than it is.

Now, to style. Seriously, you can style this with anything. Simple straight-leg jeans, flats, wear it as a sweater and you’re good to go. Add a shirt underneath, suddenly it’s a chic cardigan. Toss it over your shoulders and it’s a textured shawl. I’ve worn it with denim, trousers, skirts and over dresses. It works with everything.

Sezane makes the Betty in so many colors. I opted for the brown - it’s rich, hazelnut hue feels polished and v old money vibes which I love. I also snapped it up in the black with white stripes and have a variation - the Bethany - in a robin’s egg blue. I’ve got my eye on the navy next, with that adorable crochet detailing.

This is a great intro to Sezane, if you’re looking to get into the brand. Seriously, buy them in multiple colors and have fun styling them - they are such a great piece.

Did I mention I’m obsessed with Sezane? Ugh, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, rant over.
