Not a loafer, nor a ballerina, the Mary Jane occupies a unique place in my wardrobe - it’s French, preppy, classic, yet, kinda edgy. All while being effortlessly cool.
LE TREND:
MARY JANES
Like a classic white button-down or vintage pair of jeans, Mary Jane flats have a kind of timeless appeal that seems to transcend trends. Dainty, timeless, and cool in an effortless kind of way, I finally got my hands on a pair in my size (34), and damnit if I don’t feel like the hippest gal at the natural wine bar.
I’m envisioning these becoming a true wardrobe workhorse, incorporating them into my daily looks winter, spring, summer, and fall - an upgrade from the typical ballet flat (which, don’t get me wrong, I am obsessed with and am so happy to find them back in style), it’s high-fashion-ish but also easy. Charming. That’s the adjective I’ve been after this whole time.
How am I styling them? With everything and anything.
These are Margaux, a New York-based brand that, simply put, designs pretty footwear. That’s also comfortable. And made in Spain. And they aren’t insanely expensive, just kinda expensive. The black suede is a soft and rich, the gold buckle detail dainty yet feels reinforced, the almond toe makes it feel like an everyday wear, plus, the padding the sole means you can actually spend all day and night in them. Best part of this brand, aside from all those other winning points though, is the sizing. They carry size 33, 33.5 and 34 in almost all their shoes - which means I can actually wear them - hallelujah! I’ve found I like the size 33.5 best - feels snug and secure and as they stretch I don’t fear them stretching out. Highly recommend buying all the Margaux shoes - I’m well on my way to amassing quite the collection - planning on full post about ‘em soon. But in the meantime - Mary Janes are officially cool.
