MY NEVER-EVER- FAIL

For all those times I literally can’t even, here’s my to-go formula for getting dressed and getting out the door.

FORMULAS FOR GETTING DRESSED

I’m staring at my closet. It’s 9:03 a.m. and technically I should have been at my desk three minutes ago. But instead, I stand frozen, staring at my very organized and curated closet thinking, “fuck, I have absolutely nothing to wear.”

Except, that’s a lie, isn’t it? I have so many things to wear. I love buying clothes and shoes and bags, so, I have a lot of clothes and shoes and bags, just waiting to be worn. So why is it I feel so paralyzed, unable to form and outfit? I don’t know and I’m not looking to diagnose anything today, but the very easy solution is develop a wardrobe formula. And that’s what I did. Here it is:

TOP + LADY JACKET + JEANS + BALLET FLATS

So simple, right? And yet, it feels so revolutionary. A top - it can be a blouse, a button-down, tee shirt, anything that’s relatively simple and isn’t going to be distracting, underneath a lady jacket. The jacket can be more structured, or, like this outfit, more of a sweater. You want to make sure it drapes nicely and falls just at or above your hips.

The jeans should be kinda straight-leg and high-rise, a rigid denim crop situtation is going to be my go-top because I like how it looks. For shoes, a classic ballet flat is all you need.

General rules: makes sure your colors either match to create a monochrome moment or complement each other. Your fabrics shouldn’t be same - like a silk blouse and a knit, or a cotton tee and a tweed jacket. Tuck in your shirt to add some extra polish. A neutral bag that has some structure completes the look.
