Proudly in my lady jacket era, this jacket walks the line between elevated cardigan and effortlessly cool jacket. We’re about to get into it, but if you don’t have the time, all you need to know is that Sezane’s latest stunner is amazing.
SEZANE REVIEW
AUGUSTINE JACKET
Spotted in Sezane’s mid-winter collection drop, this Augustine Jacket immediately caught my attention - the unstructured knit, ladylike details, warm butter color - I set a reminder for Sunday and purchased it a few hours after it dropped.
The basics: it’s a cropped, jacket, kinda a knit though. It’s 50% merino wool and 50% organic cotton. A crochet detail runs around the collar, down the front, rings the bottom and finishes both sleeves.
The vision: I wanted this to be an easy layer to throw on that would add polish to any outfit. The neutral hue, I hoped, would make it versatile, while the details would make my look of the day pop. I’d say this jacket did exactly that. Read on for the full breakdown.
For reference, I am 5’1”, chest is 28”, waist is 23”, and hips are 29”.
My sleeve length is 19”. I wear a petite 00 / XXS or a 00 / XXS.
I purchased the Ausguste Jacket in XXS.
FIT
This is probably the most oversized piece I’ve purchased from Sezane yet. But in specific ways. The jacket is 18.5” in the XXS, sleeves are very long at 22”, and the overall circumference is 36” around the middle. So on me, that means it hits right at my waist, but I have to roll the sleeves and it does kinda balloon around me a bit.
FABRIC
The Auguste really shines with it’s thick merino wool / organic cotton blend. The jacket feels expensive (and it is!), and the heavyweight drape I think helps make the oversized-nature of the jacket look better for smaller body types. The weave looks polished and well-crafted, while the crochet detialing along the collar, pockets, sleeves, buttons and bottom add visual interest, and again, help make this look like a very fancy knit.
QUALITY
Kinda touched on it already, but this feels like a quality piece. The drape falls nicely on the body, the stitching is well-done, no errant stray threads, and the details really help to make this jacket look like an heirloom piece that’ll last years and years.
PRICE
It’s $235, which is not cheap. But, there’s a lot lesser-quality items out there for $200+ that are terrible and not worth the money. The Auguste feels like it could be a $450 jacket, it’s that good. I think the value is there and it’s worth the investment.
DETAILS
The crochet is really quite stunning. The knit work around the collar and around the entire jacket makes it look really elevated, while the wool / cotton blend still keep it casual-ish. The buttons are crocheted as well, which is just a lovely little detail that’s completely unnecessary but I’m obsessed with.
FINAL VERDICT
Buy this jacket. Buy it in both colors. It’s one of those elusive, day-to-night pieces that’s going to be in your rotation for years to come. I only wish the sleeves were a bit shorter, but I have T-Rex arms so that’s a me-problem not an Auguste Jacket problem. Get this jacket. Be happy.
